Tyneham Project - Post Office Row formed the 'high street' of the village and consisted of four cottages. The cottage nearest the church was the School House. The next cottage along was the Labourer's Cottage. Next we come to the Post Office. The last cottage in the row was known as Shepherd's Cottage.

The previous Estate Agent had taken a shot of the house from the drive only showing a very small part of the building. The house looks over fields towards Horton (Dorset) and on a clear day you can see the Needles (IOW). I set up my mast in the field with the farmer’s permission. The main problem was the ground! My mast was sinking! Even on planks of wood so had to act fast.

Fell over a few times walking to the summit in darkness but with my torch strapped to my head! Not the most fantastic’s of sunrises but it was the last day of 2011. Came home covered in mud but to my wife I’m an idiot but that’s why I love photography!

Dorset is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast. The county town is Dorchester which is situated in the south. The Hampshire towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch joined the county with the reorganisation of local government in 1974.
The county has a long history of human settlement and some notable archaeology, including the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod Hill. A large defensive ditch, Bokerley Dyke, delayed the Saxon conquest of Dorset for up to 150 years. In 1348 the Black Death came ashore at Melcombe Regis and subsequently spread throughout England, killing a third of the population. Dorset has seen much civil unrest: the first trade union was formed by farm labourers from Tolpuddle in 1834, the Glorious Revolution was instigated in an ice-house at Charborough Park, and the Duke of Monmouth and his rebels landed at Lyme Regis. During the English Civil War (1642–1651) angry yokels fought with Cromwell's forces near Shaftesbury. The naval base at Portland has had a pivotal role in the nation's defence for many years, and along with Weymouth and Poole was one of the main embarkation points on D Day.

I got out of bed this morning at 04:30am, packed the car with my camera gear and set off. I arrived at Wareham at 05:30am and spent the next two hours taking photographs. Every Saturday the market sets up on the quay and is open at 06:00am which is handy as it was 4 below! And it’s nice to have a hot cup of tea and a beacon Bap. Sunrise was at 07:59, home by 09:00am.

Wareham - The town's oldest features are the town walls, ancient earth ramparts surrounding the town, likely built by Alfred the Great in the 9th century to defend the town from the Danes.

Shelley Manor - A Brief History
Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) did not just write literature, but was a prime source of inspiration for many famous poets that followed in his footsteps. Whilst venerated in the United States of America, Italy and Japan, he is scarcely remembered today other than by his association with his wife Mary Shelley (1797-1851). Mary edited and promoted the works of her husband, whilst also being a novelist, short story writer, biographer and travel writer, she is best known for her Gothic novel ‘Frankenstein’.

Tyneham is a small abandoned village around 5 miles west of Corfe Castle. The village dates back before medieval times and was a small thriving community with a Parish covering 3000 acres.

Six days before Christmas in 1943, the villagers of Tyneham in Dorset were ordered to leave their homes so the army could practise for the D-Day landings. The promise that they could return was broken. The army kept the land and the public was banished from this beautiful part of the Countryside.

After the war the village remained under military control and has been used for the past 50 years as a target area for the tanks stationed at the nearby barrack.

Today most of the village lies in ruins with only the church and school remaining fully intact. The old manor house and small cottages have collapsed with only parts of their walls remaining and all repairs to the remains of the village are taken care of by the military.

Godmanston - Dorset. The historic thatched Smith's Arms pub in the village is one of several that claim to be the smallest pub in Britain. It is said that the original licence was granted by King Charles II, when he requested that the village smith serve him a glass of porter. The smith refused as he had no licence, so Charles granted him one on the spot and was served his drink. Closed.

RAF Brandy Bay – 1941 A Radar station was built on the ridge above Egliston Gwyle. The RAF requisitioned Tyneham House as an administration centre for the radar station and built a camp in Tyneham Great Wood.
