It was a small station built to the north east of the mile-long village of Shillingstone (formerly Shilling Okeford) which lines the A357 road. It consisted of two platforms. On the up platform, which was the shorter of the two, the brick-built station buildings were found. These carried an ornate awning, unusual for stations at the southern end of the line. To the south of the station buildings, behind the platform, were found a well-tended garden with flower beds, shrubs and a greenhouse. The down platform, which was much longer, was home to a small wooden shelter.
